Volunteers with transradial amputation are sought to be part of an on-going research study to test a new investigational prosthetic system allowed by the FDA for investigation. The system has the potential to deliver meaningful sensations of touch, grip force and hand opening to the user. If you are at least 18 years of age and have a below-the-elbow amputation that occurred 9 months ago or more, then you might be eligible to participate in a clinical trial for the investigational system.

If you

The purpose of this study is to deepen our understanding of the use of neurostimulation to provide effective sensory feedback to individuals in mixed reality (XR) environments (virtual and/or augmented reality). This study evaluates neurostimulation technology that sends electrical signals through the nerves to produce sensations of touch with the objective:

  • To understand how the brain processes these sensations; and
  • To determine how these sensations can assist during virtual reality tasks.

Subject group: Seeking Healthy Adult Upper or Lower Limb Amputee Volunteers

Status: Open

If you

  • Are between 18 and 60 years old
  • Are in good general health
  • Have an amputation between the wrist and elbow, and are able and willing to use a myoelectric prosthetic hand
  • Or have an amputation between the knee and the ankle

Then, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to help us develop a non-invasive electrical neurostimulation approach for providing sensory feedback and to better understand how people can perceive graded sensations. Eligible subjects will participate in up to five sessions of about 3 hours each.

If you

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • with fully functional upper and lower limbs
  • or limb loss, at a level below the elbow (transradial) and/or below the knee (transtibial)

Then, you may be eligible to participate in a research study to help us deepen our understanding of the use of neurostimulation to provide effective sensory feedback to individuals in mixed reality (XR) environments (virtual and/or augmented reality).
